"Even though they are situated in the same Indian state, the landscapes and cultures of the regions of Kashmir and Ladakh could not be more different," says Clive Grylls.
The pine-clad slopes of the green Kashmir Valley are incredibly fertile and the people that live there are of a Muslim persuasion. Conversely, the high mountains that surround Ladakh mean that it is in a permanent sun shadow and the landscape is therefore moonlike and arid. The inhabitants of this reason are predominantly Buddhist and the region has been described as a 'little Tibet'. The images on this gallery, landscape and portrait, portray the astounding diversity of the two regions.
